Apple’s Misstep with new iPod voice-over feature

I've read several twitters and blogs which basically have been calling the new iPod Shuffle a disaster. First off I am not an Apple fan and if anything I have more of a bias against Apple as a company then for it. I think that many of the personal opinions about the poor design of the product such as the size of the device and having to use the Apple ear buds have merit. I know that personally I would never buy a product this small because as many have pointed out it would be too easy to lose. As for those complaining about having to use the Apple ear buds with the built in control-- what did you expect? Apple products have always been more proprietary then other companies -- we have seen this before in the way the iPod is dependent on the iTunes service, the way Apple handles iPhone apps, and in the recessed headphone jack on the iPhone; This is one way Apple tries to locks it customers into using only Apple products.

Yes, the voice-over is not a blow me over "cool" innovation, but I think that many are so busy trashing the proprietary ear buds that they are missing the benefits of the voice-over feature. While having the voice-over tell you the name of an artist, the name of a song or the name of a play list does not really have a big "wow" factor it does have one advantage -- the convenience of not having to stop what I'm doing and fumble around with looking at a tiny display to choose a particular song or play list. Unfortunate, the way Apple has incorporated voice-over into the product has led to a wholesale rejection by many of an overall good feature.
